Abstract

Neither the effects of the Great Depression on the Mexican economy nor the latter’s general performance during the 1930s have been clearly established in the literature. Perhaps one of the few agreements in the historiography of this period is that the structure of the economy suffered a fundamental change and that the basis was laid for postwar development.
