Abstract
The place of the non-professional educator in the antenatal preparation class, wherever it is held, is as a leader of discussion and a teacher of skills. Ideally she should be valued but without status, and must be of particularly high quality in order to prove her value among the many highly qualified people who exist to help a woman in her pregnancy, labour and early parenthood.
