Abstract

Regulating the safe transport of radioactive materials necessitates certain basic provisions which may be summarised as follows:

  1. (1)

    control of the radiation emitted from the material;

  2. (2)

    containment of the material;

  3. (3)

    dissipation of any heat generated; and

  4. (4)

    for fissile material, prevention of criticality.
