Abstract

Whereas Chapter 3 was principally concerned with the structural and tectonic framework of the ocean floors around Europe, the present chapter deals with the submarine relief features and their origins. The chapter is organized on a regional basis and deals in turn with the north-western Atlantic margins of Europe, the southwestern margins, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, and finally the more distant parts of the Atlantic Ocean floor as far west as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
