Abstract
Les Mamelles de Tiréstas was Apollinaire’s only play to be published and performed, albeit at a single private performance, during his lifetime. In answer to a question from Madeleine, he wrote, on 2 September 1915, ‘Yes, I should like to write plays as well. You shall help me do it. … Moreover, my darling, I like the theatre, but I don’t like to go too often, consequently I have fun every time I go to see a play….’
