Abstract
We define environment to mean those factors and events in Nigeria that have helped to shape the country’s industrial relations. These include the historical and political development and the economic changes that have taken place over the years. They also include the sociocultural factors affecting attitudes and behaviour at work. It is within this milieu of interrelated factors that the parties in the industrial relations system interact.
