Abstract
The main emphasis in this book has been on Britain’s role within the EC and most particularly on the way forward : the EC is seen as a dynamic institution capable of adapting itself to incorporate elements which would be beneficial to the UK without imposing undue constraints on her partners. Those who consider such an approach either over-optimistic or unjustifiable will no doubt prefer an analysis of the present state of affairs. Obviously, such an approach is not neglected here since a proper appreciation of the way forward depends on understanding the EC policies within a status quo context.
