Abstract

Haberler Gottfried (1900- ). Austrianborn American economist, best known for his work in international trade. In his Theory Of International Trade (1936) he provided an alternative demonstration of the gains from trade in terms of the opportunity cost of producing goods as seen in the goods foregone. This freed the case for trade from the real costs of the approach of Ricardo. His other major early work was Prosperity And Depression (1935) which surveyed the literature on business cycles. His other major works are International Trade And Economic Development (1959), an authoritative monograph A Survey OF International Trade Theory (1961) and Money In The International Economy (1965).
