Abstract
The 99-year lease under which Britain gained possession of the Crown Colony of Hong Kong from the old Chinese Imperial Government expires on 30 June 1997. Although the total land area is only just over 400 square miles its entrepot role is enhanced when it is recognised as the gateway to China, a virtually untapped market of more than 800 million people.
