The Chronology of the Revolt
Readers of the following documents will soon appreciate that the detailed chronology of the English Peasants’ Revolt presents several intricate and indeed insoluble problems. It is, for example, impossible to give exact dates for such important episodes as the first outbreak of violence in Essex or the rout of the Norfolk rebels at North Walsham. But there is reliable direct or circumstantial evidence for all the dates mentioned in the following lists, and I have included references to several European as well as English provincial risings in order to supplement those documented at length in the course of this collection.
