Having now looked at all the sectors of the economy (with the exception of the sector of financial companies and institutions — which sector is considered subsequently when we can more readily appreciate its role), Chapters 11 and 12 explain how the aggregate economy ‘works’. In Chapter 11 we consider the problem of aggregate demand; in Chapter 12 we consider the financial balances (surpluses or deficits) of sectors of the economy as part of the macroeconomic system.
