Abstract

One basic difference between residential and field work is that the field worker primarily works at influencing systems of which he/she is not a part. Thus, in working with a family the field worker attempts to change the patterns of action and response so that individuals will be able to behave differently. The residential worker also may wish to change problematic behaviour but he/she is a part of the system which influences that change, is a part of daily life.
