Abstract

The recent development of the ‘nursing process’ has introduced nurses to the concept of assessment as a major aspect of the nurse’s work. In nursing process terms, assessment of the patient is the first step to be carried out before the nursing intervention is planned, before the plan is implemented, and before an evaluation is carried out. In practice, these four steps can be so inter-related that they are all part of any one nursing activity.
