Abstract
So far our programs have only output numbers, apart from the?, which BASIC supplies whenever an INPUT instruction is reached in a program. It is a great help to our understanding of a program if comments, requests for data or explanations are printed as well as the?. Words which a program causes to be printed out are called ‘literals’, and these can very easily be incorporated into PRINT instructions. All that we need to do is to enclose the words to be printed in double quotation marks,”, and they will be printed at the time the PRINT instruction is executed.
