Abstract

The larynx is that part of the air passages between the oropharynx and the trachea. It lies in the middle of the anterior part of the neck opposite the fourth, fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae and is about 5 cm long, 4 cm wide and 3.5 cm in its anteroposterior diameter. It is smaller in the female in all its dimensions, a difference in size which becomes marked at puberty.
