Field-work and Qualitative Data: The Deciphering
The list shown in Table 8.1 presents a simplified comparison between the kind of research analysed in Chapters 1–6 and the field-work approach introduced in Chapter 7. This is a contrast between two ideal-types, and it is essential to remember that most individual studies differ from type I or type II in several respects and that some studies combine certain elements from the two types. The ABCDE model (which is itself an ideal-type) fits type I research exactly but is not applicable to the field-work approach exemplified by type II.
