Abstract
To the ordinary man in the street a balance sheet does not mean very much. He might see a big bank balance and a lot of property and stock, and assume that it is a good business; but if he spots a bank overdraft or some long-term loans he could just as easily form the reverse conclusion. To many others the balance sheet is merely a double list of figures, with totals of corresponding amounts.
