Abstract

One prime difficulty of reading or performing Shakespeare’s plays has not so far been mentioned. As a man born in 1564, his mind, environment and expectations, were all different from ours. The language he spoke was in some respects different too, and the ways in which men wrote it. Time has put barriers between then and now.
