Abstract
The objective of this chapter is to explain some of the relatively recent developments in the application of mathematical models to the field of managerial accounting. It is intended to supply merely an appreciation of the way in which mathematically based accounting systems may be developed, despite the fact that, at present, they are not extensively used in practice. This is an example of the fact that accounting is a discipline which is developing and capable of further development — even though it is not absolutely certain which direction future developments will take.
