Abstract
Community studies are not, I think, much in fashion in Britain at the moment, but there is something quite modish claiming to be a new urban sociology. I want to consider what we have learned about society through community studies in Britain — in terms of cultural changes, class and ethnic relations. And I want in conclusion to consider briefly some of the issues raised by the new urban sociology.
