Part of the book series: Cambridge Studies in Sociology

Abstract

The theme of this book is one which has always been a central concern of sociologists, and indeed of all who have been interested in the social problems of industrial society. It deals with the relationship between occupations and social stratification. However, if the subject is traditional the approach is not. We have chosen to bring to bear a set of different approaches on related issues which are central to our general problem. In content, we hope, it may prove surprising and provoking in its rejection of certain orthodoxies.
