Abstract
In the main, Born Illegitimate (Crellin et al., 1971) and Growing-up Adopted (Seglow et al., 1972) encompassed the first 7 years of these children’s lives (and beyond, in many respects, for the latter), and posed a number of questions related to two central issues: ‘Is illegitimacy still a problem?’ and ‘How do adopted children make out?’ They were able to give some answers regarding the children’s early experiences and their progress up to the age of 7, but other questions could be answered only partially in view of their longitudinal nature.
