Abstract
At some stage any study of monetary economics in the United Kingdom must close the gap between theory and practice with a description of the banking sector. Chapters 6–9 therefore describe the main features of this sector and analyse the course of recent U.K. domestic monetary experience. The discussion begins with a general examination of the role and operation of the financial sector as a whole.
