Abstract

The crisis in education which has been outlined in the last chapter shows itself in uniquely different ways in different societies. But such obvious uniqueness ought not to be a deterrent to making comparisons between, or generalisations across, a number of different societies and their educational systems. For it is through such comparison that we gain some broader understanding of the role which education plays in development and, perhaps more importantly, the role which it could play in the future.
