Abstract
JOHN Amos Komensky (‘Comenius’)1 had the misfortune to live during one of the most vexed eras of European history, and in one of the most troubled regions. It is not surprising that he regarded history as a succession of challenges and man’s chief end as the acquisition of wisdom to cope with these.
