Abstract

The Ad Hoc Committee on the Human Rights and Genocide Treaties supports efforts to advance the UN Charter purpose of promoting and encouraging human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without discrimination. The Ad Hoc Committee will continue to press for early ratification of the conventions on slavery, forced labour, political rights of women and genocide. Simultaneously, the Ad Hoc Committee recommends that its member agencies study and endorse the other international human rights conventions adopted by the United Nations and its specialised agencies — the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Description, the Convention Against Discrimination in Education and the ILO Conventions on Discrimination in Employment and on Equal Pay for Equal Work.
