Abstract

In this section the general principles involved in reducing noise, or defending people from it, will be explained and related in broad terms to design. It must, however, be stressed that a knowledge of principles is only the first step in design. Without also some means of quantitatively assessing the amounts by which noise can be reduced and, without criteria for the levels of noise which are acceptable, a knowledge of principles is of little value.
