Abstract

The preceding chapters have discussed the structure and function of normal cells, some of the abnormalities which distinguish cancer cells and the factors which may be implicated in the disease. It has become evident that cancer is a protean group of disorders with many different manifestations and in the causation of which many different kinds of agents are involved. This chapter discusses the relationships among the different aetiological factors and the common features of cancer which may facilitate the diagnosis of the disease and provide a general basis for its treatment.
