Abstract

It is not my intention to draw comparisons between post-compulsory education in England and what is happening in similar areas of provision in other countries: so much depends upon differences of history and culture, of resources and objectives, that thorough comparative studies would occupy several volumes. My purpose here is simply and briefly to draw attention to certain developments in other parts of the world which among them illustrate the variety of approaches which are being adopted in the common pursuit of what has become known as éducation permanente.
