Abstract

The results of the March elections were a considerable blow to the Right; they had anticipated that Allende’s vote would be less than the 1970 level, and that the combined votes of the parties of the opposition would provide the two-thirds necessary to impeach Allende and bring down the government. Instead, the Popular Unity vote increased.
