The Coup and its Aftermath

  • Chapter
Book cover Chile: The State and Revolution

Abstract

The following account is based primarily on reports in the European press (especially Le Monde), supplemented by information which has come out of Chile since the coup through refugees or the underground press. The only newspapers now allowed in Chile are those which give support to the junta. Even the right-wing daily La Tribuna was closed in December 1973, for publishing a report on the armed forces themselves with which the junta disagreed. Official Chilean news is useful only as an indication of military thinking and propaganda.
