Public Enterprise

  • Chapter
Economic Policy

Abstract

The United Kingdom currently possesses what must be regarded as an extensive public-enterprise sector for what is ostensibly a capitalistic economy. The purpose of this chapter is not merely to examine the theoretical arguments and historical developments which have brought this about, but also to try to assess in a general way whether we have struck upon a workable and efficient amalgam of private-and public-sector industries.
