Abstract
Computerisation has far-reaching effects on an organisation. Not only does the use of a computer create financial problems but it may also involve an organisational restructuring that results in the whole administrative machinery revolving around the computer system. There are many and varied reasons why people choose to use a computer, some of which may appear to be rather trivial. Smart1 considers that all too often the designers and users of new techniques will be so overcome with the novelty of the approach that they will ignore the economic and/or practical aspects of the scheme. The basic considerations of cost, the effectiveness of the system and its practicability should be studied before embarking on such schemes.
