Abstract

In the two preceding chapters the concept of the phase-angle difference between phasors was introduced, and in the following an analytical method is developed for the representation of phase difference. If we take phasor OA of length a in figure 7.1. and turn it through 90° in an anticlockwise direction, we say that we have operated on the phasor. To indicate that the phasor has rotated through 90°, we write

$$ OB = ja $$
(7.1)

where j is the 90° operator. Note Length OB is shown in bold type to indicate that it is a phasor quantity.
