Abstract
After a circuit is connected to an electrical supply, it takes a little time for the currents and voltages associated with each component to settle down to their steady-state values. The length of this settling period is known as the transient period of operation, the transients dying away in a period of time known as the settling-time. In this chapter we are concerned with transients occurring in RL and RC circuits.
