Abstract
Misfit social thought poses the questions of deviance and politics; social work more sharply than any other sector of the welfare apparatus faces these questions in its practice. The question, primarily, is what is the deviant imagination — an expression of an authentic, possibly rebellious human spirit; or a waste product of society to be processed and re-cycled, or neutralised so that it causes the minimum of fuss?
