Statically Determinate Structures

Abstract

A structure of this type consists of a number of members that are connected by pins at the ends, all the members lying in a single plane. Of course most structures that exist are three-dimensional, but in a large number of cases it is possible to treat the problem from a two-dimensional point of view. An example of this would be a bridge consisting of two parallel trusses connected by transverse members carrying the roadway. If the loads that are transmitted by the transverse members to the trusses are known, then each truss can be analysed as a two-dimensional system.
