Abstract

Most students have heard of the statistical methods of correlation and regression, even if they do not know how to perform the calculations. Simple linear correlation assesses the degree of relationship between two variables measured on a number of individuals. Regression allows us to quantify the relationship between this pair of variables (if a significant relationship does exist), so that other values can be predicted.
