Abstract
Within any one morphogenic system, the various morphogenic processes are not all of the same importance. Some play a role which is both very general and very intensive, for example the action of variations in temperature and humidity on rocks in arid regions, or freeze—thaw action in periglacial environments. When such processes are so intensive and widespread that they largely determine the landform characteristics of the morphogenic system they may be referred to as dominant processes. To these may be added the subsidiary processes which are more limited in their action, in that they affect certain rocks only, or act only from time to time.
