Abstract

The skin is provided with natural protection against infection firstly by the impervious horny layer of the skin. The natural defences of the skin include a low pH, desiccation of organisms and effects of amino acids secreted in the sebum. These rapidly destroy pathogenic organisms on the intact skin.
