Current Issues and Future Directions for Australian Housing
The United Nations designated 1987 as the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless. The aim was to encourage governments and other organisations to devote energy to thinking through national and international housing problems, and developing strategies to overcome the diverse housing and housing-related problems throughout the world. A National Committee of Nongovernment Organisations was set up in Australia to make a community input into the process of housing policy reformulation. Together with two colleagues, Hal Kendig and Neil Anderton, I was privileged to work as a consultant to that committee, and to prepare a report which was published as one of its contributions to the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless.
