Abstract

Accountability is one of the key precepts of public administration and serves, in part, to differentiate it from private business and management. It is a deceptively simple proposition that civil servants should be held properly accountable for the work they do, and that there should be adequate mechanisms for citizens, clients or customers of the public services to secure redress of grievances caused by official acts (or failure to act).
