Abstract

Having examined the organisational and financial aspects of European businesses, this chapter explores the strategic issues and problems facing them in their long-term operations. The strategic objectives of businesses are analysed and the role of change in influencing business strategy is examined. The role of the strategic audit is discussed as a tool for the business to evaluate its performance as a prerequisite to the formulation of competitive strategy. The strategic implications of diversification are considered. Finally, for the business encountering the threat of failure, the use of a turnaround strategy is analysed. Case studies are explored to discuss these issues in depth.
