Electoral Change and Political Attitudes

  • Chapter
Politics and Society in Scotland

Abstract

So far in the book we have looked mainly at institutions and political parties. In this chapter we pay more systematic attention to the political behaviour and attitudes of the Scottish population as a whole. To do this, we rely mainly on the evidence of statistical surveys and opinion polls. These have become available only in the last 30 years, and so our attention is on the recent past. Four broad questions are addressed.
