The word ‘grammar’ has unpleasant connotations for many people. For some it means reciting rules and then trying to apply them at the right time. For others it means everything about the structure of the new language that is different from the language they speak already. This chapter builds on the information in Chapter 2 about knowing and describing a language, by showing not what you need to learn but how you can learn it.
