Abstract
When a decision is taken that an information system does need to be developed, the next task is to understand the information requirements that the new system is to meet: what data the system should collect and process; what output it should produce; and how to make it available to the right recipients or users. An analyst can then propose various combinations of software, hardware, and organizational change to provide for them. An analyst must also support such proposals with adequate information so that the management of the organization can choose one of them and approve it for development. This requires careful consideration of the advantages to be gained and the risks associated with each of the proposals, a task which is generally known as a feasibility study.
