Abstract

Water is essential for animal life on Earth and is also necessary for most of our agricultural and industrial activities. A supply of good water is therefore a fundamental service for a community and this supply requires major financial and engineering investments in the systems needed for the collection, storage, treatment, and distribution of the water. The pumping of water necessary in a supply system also requires significant amounts of energy.
