Price, Convenience, Electronic Retailing and the Internet Store
I referred to the American, but now international, bulk discounter, Costco earlier, in commenting on the probable budgetary and delivery problems associated with small purchases. So far Costco are operating in Britain with a traditional club membership, permitting personal visits for bulk purchases. I imagined the scenario if the system allowed shoppers to be selective on individual items, rather than bulk. I have no reason to think that the system is likely to change, at least in the short term, but it was a useful hypothesis.
