Abstract
The ‘special relationship’ that has existed between Canada and the Commonwealth or English-speaking Caribbean embodies trade and aid, sustainable development, civil society, security, and relations with Cuba in light of the Helms-Burton law. It is a special relationship that is one of the oldest in the area, going back to the early eighteenth century. Canada is as much a part of the Caribbean region as the Caribbean is a part of Canada.
