Abstract

So far, we have looked at ways of summarizing information; we collect measurements from a set of cases and then reduce these hundreds (sometimes thousands) of numbers into one or two descriptive statistics such as the mean and standard deviation. We have seen how such descriptive statistics provide a useful summary of the overall picture, saving us the trouble of having to wade through each and every case from which we take a measurement.
